“Think Rich, Look Poor”
For this week’s blog, I want to bring to your attention a fashion show I attended this weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 30, Western’s Style Society organized a fashion show not only inspired by Andy Warhol captivating quote “Think Rich, Look Poor,” but also as a way of collecting money for Haiti. It was held at the London Tap House, and let me tell you — I was impressed.
I have been to a few fashion shows organized by Western clubs, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this show. I recognized some clothes from Mesh Boutique in downtown London, and some from Creole Vintage, which is a line my friend from Halifax and I have in consignment at Mesh, so that was pretty exiting to see. Not only were the clothes amazing, but it was done which such taste that is not easy to pull off. Long-haired shirtless boys, fur and lingerie were flawlessly combined to successfully create a daring yet tasteful display.
Some of my favourite outfits included high rise acid wash jeans, girls with short shorts and bow ties, and the amount of combat boots in both girls and boys made me ecstatic.
But so did the feeling I got from every collection. I felt like London is finally thinking outside of the box with regards to fashion. There are people who dress out of the ordinary and do not conform. This to me was the most exiting part of the show. I was so impressed with the way they pulled the outfits together.
My favourite collection was the lingerie and fur. Lingerie is extremely hard to pull off on a runway. But I was so pleased to see the harmony, yet juxtaposition between the two items.
Here are some of my favourite outfits of the night:
