Doctor gets busted

Londoners should be wary of who they see to take care of their pearly whites.

Early last week a London man was arrested by the London Police Service in co-operation with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. The team was investigating complaints of a “doctor” performing dental surgeries in his home.

The accused was not licensed to practice dentistry in Ontario and was charged for fraud and unlawfully causing bodily harm.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has advised anyone who received treatment from Solano Rosania to be tested for blood borne infections as soon as possible.

“Our concern is for the people who may have received dental care from Mr. Solano Rosania. They need to find out if they have been exposed to a blood-borne disease and if they need further followup or treatment,” Bryna Warshawsky, associate medical officer of health at the Middlesex-London Health Unit said in a press release. “Blood borne-infections like hepatitis B, C and HIV, can be present without any symptoms, and can be spread to others. This is why testing is so important.”

The Health Unit is unable to confirm whether the dental instruments Rosania used were sterilized. Warshawky noted their primary concern is to treat those who may be infected, and stop the spread of infection.

Individuals who visited Rosania can arrange tests through their health care provider or by contacting the Health Unit. To stop the spread of infection anyone who visited the accused should use a condom during sexual activity and refrain from sharing objects that may contain traces of blood such as razor blades, nail clippers, scissors, needles and syringes.

These recommendations should be followed until blood tests indicate no infection is present.
