Western’s speakers list just keeps growing.
Stephen Lewis, Canadian ambassador to the United Nations and special UN envoy on HIV/AIDS in Africa, will be coming to Western on March 31 at Alumni Hall.
Lewis will be speaking about how an engaged society can help prevent cancer during an event called “The People vs. Cancer.”
He believes if we applied what we know now, we could cut cancer in half within a generation. He hopes to challenge universities to start putting their skills to work to make this happen.
The tour is part of the Campaign to Control Cancer: a coalition of more then 70 cancer organizations who hope to decrease the number of cases of cancer through knowledge and action.
“Launched in early 2005, the mission of the C2CC is to fundamentally transform Canada’s response to cancer from one of fear and insecurity to one of strength and control,” Lewis said in a press release.
The event will also feature Amit Chakma, president and vice chancellor of Western, and Tracy Sexton, assistant professor at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and radiation oncologist at London Regional Cancer Program, as speakers.
The event will be free for all to attend.
