When you think of the average hypnotist there might be a few stereotypes that come to mind — but Tony Lee isn’t your average hypnotist.
This MMA fighter turned hypnotist is renowned across Canada for his X-rated show. While some hypnotists are known for making their subjects quack like a duck, or hug a stranger, Lee takes it a step further. Audiences members who participate in Lee’s act have been known to swear, act out porn, and even orgasm — all while on stage.
While Lee makes his living a hypnotist now, 25 years ago, Lee didn’t even believe in hypnosis.
“I thought it was a crock,” Lee laughs.
Then, one day while joking around with a group of friends, Lee accidentally hypnotized a group of them. Since then he’s traveled to university campuses across Canada performing his act.
According to Lee’s official Facebook page, he’s sold out more university and college performances and received more awards than any other performer in Canadian history, with over 5000 sold out performances in the past two decades.
Lee explains everyone can be hypnotized — despite the common myth that only a small percentage of the population are susceptible to hypnosis.
Students, in fact, are some of the best subjects to hypnotize, according to Lee.
“[Students are] open minded — they welcome the possibility of being hypnotized,” Lee says.
Because the show is X-rated, Lee’s suggestions are expectedly a bit racier than your average hypnotist. But Lee assures he never crosses the line when it comes to subjects on stage.
“I’d never ask a girl to do the same things I would ask a guy to do,” Lee explains as an example.
Lee’s performed at Western several times before, with the show being a hit among students.
For those who have seen Lee perform at Western before, he says expect new things from the show. And for those who have never seen him before?
“If you’re easily offended, don’t come,” Lee laughs.
Tony Lee will be performing Friday Nov. 26 at the Wave. Doors open at 10 p.m. Admission is $8. This event is 19+
