Re: “We need to be taught a lesson” (March 10, 2011)
To the Editor:
Jesse’s editorial ”We need to be taught a lesson” was bang on!
Teachers college should never be a back-up plan. Becoming a teacher requires more than blatant knowledge — you need to be creative, patient and charismatic to be an effective teacher.
Yet year after year, undergrads apply to teachers college with a true sense of entitlement. Students need to realize, four years in a Bachelors program validates knowledge in a subject area rather than the ability to educate.
So please don’t consider teaching as your ”back-up” option, reserve those spaces for people with the passion and skill to educate the future generation.
