Is the heat starting to bother you? Is your sweet tooth getting the better of you as you try to stay in shape? Smoothies can solve these summer struggles. If you’re looking for something delicious for breakfast, a snack or even dessert, turn on some summer tunes and try blending one of these three tasty recipes.
Summer Mix 1: Pomegranate Protein Shake
This smoothie provides fibre, protein, vitamins, calcium and iron to help you start your day off right.
Mix it with: “Send Me on My Way” by Rusted Root.
Ingredients:
1 cup POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice
3/4 cup soy milk or low-fat milk
1/2 cup ice cubes
1 large banana
3 tbsp slivered almonds
2 tbsp protein powder
1 tbsp honey
Directions:
Blend ingredients until consistency is achieved. For a thicker consistency and more filling smoothie, substitute milk with low-fat yogurt. Plain Greek yogurt is an alternative option to maximize your protein intake. Serves 1-2.
Summer Mix 2: Strawberry Banana Smoothie
With 200 calories per serving, this smoothie is ideal for a light snack in the afternoon. While flax seed is optional, this mix is a good source of fibre and Omega 3

3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup ice cubes
1 banana
6 oz. nonfat plain yogurt
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
Directions:
