the self-important idiots that write for the gazette stun me again with their ignorance. i am curious how many of them live off of osap. i am also curious how many of them question what, exactly, the purpose of higher education is meant to be. i am also curious as to how many of these gazette

Oh, right. Sure. Those less advantaged students from working class backgrounds should just get off their butts and get a part-time job. That's what higher education is all about, right? Learning how to juggle advanced/intensive academic study with a job? Exactly. I'll bet those farmers' kids could really use that kind of a lesson, eh?

Indeed. There's plenty of debate-stifling happening elsewhere in our society. PLENTY. We have to protect, uphold, and advance institutions of higher learning as bastions of free speech and expression. Let the debate continue -- and the truth will emerge. Whenever someone opposes free speech and expression, it's nearly always because they have something to hide

I think what Andrew and the 4 other students are doing across our province is really important. They are demonstrating one of the flaws of the OSAP system in a very public way. Too many students are dependent on OSAP, but because of the clawback, can't work to supplement the loan money and are stuck

Lakehead levels Mustangs in series sweep

Western’s archrival has done it again. Since joining the Ontario University Athletics conference at the beginning of the decade, the Lakehead Thunderwolves have contested six playoff series against the Mustangs, never with home-ice advantage. For the fourth time, the Thunderwolves knocked the Mustangs out of the Queen’s Cup race after ... (more)

Mustangs off on the right foot

“Waterloo has been our nemesis for the past two or three years. It was good to put an exclamation mark on that this year.” Mustang volleyball player Kyle Bryce was certainly happy with his team’s playoff performance on Saturday. Western’s men’s volleyball team advanced to the Ontario University Athletics Final-Four after ... (more)

    Mustangs out-pace Lakehead in semis

When March rolls around, motivation isn’t hard to come by in a Mustangs locker room. “The season is over if you lose — that’s all the motivation we should ever need,” Mustangs women’s basketball head coach Stephan Barrie said after watching his team cruise to an 84-58 victory over the Lakehead ... Men’s hockey off to semis

Twenty-one wins, 42 points and the Ontario University Athletics West division title. Yet, after 55 minutes of game two against the upstart University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks, all of the accolades the Western Mustangs men’s hockey team earned seemed meaningless. Enter Yashar Farmanara. Down one game to the Ridgebacks ... (more)

    Decisions, decisions for Babcock

Starting Roberto Luongo against the Germans Tuesday night and for the rest of the tournament is the easiest decision head coach Mike Babcock has had to make during these Olympic games. Mustangs bury Guelph

Engulfed in a sea of purple as part of Western basketball's annual "Jam the Gym" promotion, Western’s women’s team overcame a first-half scare and defeated the Guelph Gryphons 70-47. The Mustangs, now owners of a four-game winning streak, improved their record to 14-4 in the Ontario University Athletics West Division. The ... (more)

    Mustangs narrowly avoid upset

On Saturday afternoon the Western Mustangs men’s basketball team hosted the Guelph Gryphons — the last place team in the Ontario University Athletics West’s Division. What appeared to be a mismatch on paper, turned into a hard fought battle with Western squeaking by 84-80. Guelph came out aggressively and established an ... (more)
