This morning, the elections governance committee gave University Students' Council science councillor candidate Yousuf Ahmed three demerit points for inappropriate use of social media.
According to the EGC, Ahmed created a Facebook post that provided biology notes to students in “a direct effort to induce voter support.”
The committee concluded Ahmed violated section 11.1 of by-law 2’s “Fair Play” rules.
The rules state “breaking the rules of fair play include, but are not limited to, libel, slander, general sabotage of the campaigns of other candidates, misrepresentation of fact, and malicious or intentional breach of this By-law or applicable regulations.”
The committee noted he was unaware of the specific rule but did acknowledge his post was an effort to get votes.
